During week one of art, students will be bringing home a syllabus with the required materials needed for class. Please sign and return the bottom portion with your contact information. I will also be sending home a flyer for sketchbooks. If you were in my class last year, you know that we use sketchbooks everyday as part of our curriculum, I am sending home an option on buying one to support our program. Please look over everything and send any questions to me through email. I am looking forward to another amazing year at Durham!!! Go wildcats!
This Friday May 12th students will be bringing home their portfolio of work as well as their sketchbook. Please take the time to share and go over their artwork with them. All students worked extremely hard this quarter to make some really wonderful pieces.
The only artwork that should be missing from their portfolio is the ADVERSITY piece as it is in the art show next week, at Lost Mt. Middle School. If students are not here on Friday then they may pick it up during Olympic week next week. If you are a 7th or 6th grade student please hold onto your portfolio and sketchbook for art class next year! Dascha Cherepakhin and Jaylyn Baldwin won the Impact Award at the KSU Junk Yard Wars Art Exhibit.
Both ladies received a medal for their creation and their statement about Community and use of recycled materials to create something beautiful. Congratulations ladies!! I also wanted to shout out to Griffin Fuller and Nathan Steiner for exhibiting their Georgia piece as well as Sandy Julian and Jayde Echols for their GA Peach sculpture. All the pieces were wonderfully done and I am so proud and glad you shared them with the community at KSU. You all did a FABULOUS JOB!!!!! :) Come out and support some of our Durham Artists at the KSU Junk Yard Art Wars exhibit. When: Tomorrow, Saturday 29th from 11 am to 4 pm. What: Art festival, Art Exhibit, FREE ART workshops, Music and more!!! Where: KSU Visual Art Building
I am so pleased to announce that 6 of our Durham Middle School artists have made it to the finals in the COMMUNITY YOUTH ART MONTH COMPETITION for the State of Georgia. All of these students worked extremely hard to create a 2D or 3D art piece that represents what community means to them. All of these ladies worked with a partner to make these beautiful and motivating pieces. Congratulations and good luck to the following; Meghan Gray and Elizabeth Bell, Dascha Cherepakhin and Jaylyn Baldwin, Victoria Moreno and Maddie Shuff! The pin up show at KSU is a one day exhibit and contest open to all. You may submit 2 pieces and the medium must be able to be mounted to a wall with 4 push pins. You may bring the artwork to the festival yourself and hang it up between 11 a.m. and 1:30 pm Saturday 29th for judging OR the first 10 Durham students to bring Ms. Gaut artwork for the festival may drop it off to the art room for Ms. Gaut to deliver it to KSU. If you are bringing the artwork to Durham to have it delivered make sure Mrs. Gaut gets it BEFORE Monday April 17th!!
Good luck to the following students that have entered their ceramic piece for the April Diversity show at Mable House. We will find out soon if your work will be on exhibit for all in the county to see.
